This exhibition highlights a little known draftsman who, officially working as a city guard in his native city of Barcelona , devoted himself to his bestiary in secret. Born on December 12, 1895, Baqué balked at school and turned into an eccentric and rebellious person. He earned a pittance with odd jobs at the port or market, and left his family at the tender age of 17 to travel through France and Germany. During the period from 1932 to 1967 (the year he died), Baqué produced a body of imaginary creatures: his "1500 animals, rare phenomena, never-before-seen beasts, monsters and primitive beings" betray his fondness for surprising morphologies.
