In the spring, the museum will present an exhibition dedicated to showcasing the major pieces in its collections. Paris, à nous deux ! (Taking on Paris) retraces the relationship between French-speaking Swiss artists, many of whom trained in Paris, and the French capital from the 19th to the mid-20th century.
The artists sought to establish their reputations in the capital of the arts by exhibiting works at the Salon officiel (official Salon art exhibition), at the universal exhibitions and then, from the turn of the 19th century, at the new Salons (des Indépendants, d’Automne) and galleries. Some chose to settle in Paris either temporarily or permanently and became special observers, with the ravages of the Great War, crowds and individuals, fashion, indoor scenes, shows and cityscapes coming under scrutiny and capturing their imaginations.
